Good Byes

Vandita and Anupam are moving to Brazil today but their flight doesn't leave until this evening so we were able to get a bit more time in with them. We played with the girls this morning and then had some breakfast of fruits and pumpkin pancakes. Vandita and Anupam had
plans for lunch so before they left Anupam dropped us off at the mall at the top of the Peak. Peak Galleria. We had come to this mall a couple times when we were here last and it is pretty small for a Hong Kong mall so we knew it wouldn't take us long to exhaust it again. There were a couple shops we wanted to go to that we remembered from before where we picked up a couple little souvenirs. We ate lunch at a place called Cafe Deco. It was a really nice restaurant with two stories. Normally the view is probably amazing from where we sat but the clouds were so thick today all you could see was white and not even a couple feet in front of you. I had a California
Sushi Roll and Peter had an Indian Dish that he doesn't remember the name of. I tried a bit of his when I had finished mine and it was really good but there was no spice at all to it. We walked around the mall a few times and went in each store that looked remotely interesting. When we figured we had seen it all we stopped at Starbucks to get a drink. The weather has been terrible so far. The highs are in the 50's and it's been rainy each day. I was not prepared for the cold weather, we had checked before we left but I guess a front moved in and all I have are t-shirts and tank tops. Thankfully I had brought my jacket for the plane ride. Normally at Starbucks I get a frozen drink but that wasn't going to happen today so I got a hot chocolate while Peter drank his cappuccino.
We called Anupam to make sure they were back home and then took a taxi to their flat. The taxi ride was $22 Hong Kong, which makes it about $3 US. The girls were taking a nap when we got back so we watched a couple shows with Anupam. I laid down on Peter's lap and fell asleep. I don't know for how long but the girls were up when I awoke and there were cartoons on. Since we had to check into our hotel today we made sure to get all our things together and made sure we didn't forget anything. We played with the girls for a little bit more and then Peter called a taxi to pick us up. When it arrived we said good bye to our friends and the twins and then loaded our stuff into the taxi. The driver wasn't sure where to go exactly. We had pulled up the address for the hotel and had google translate put it into Cantonese. He could read it fine but still had to call his dispatch for better instructions. Eventually he found the hotel which is in Sheung Wan in Central Hong Kong and close to just about everything which will be nice for us as we do the tourist thing. We are staying at Hotel de Edge by Rhombus. Everything in Hong Kong is tiny in comparison to what we are use to in the US. We checked into our room and found that the entire thing is maybe the same size of our bedroom (not including our closet or bathroom). We weren't expecting a big place so it is not a big deal but there aren't any closets and only a couple small drawers so we will be living our of our suitcases I suppose. The bathroom is entirely made of glass-including the door
- which would be a bit awkward if I were here with someone other than my husband. I think that may be a Chinese thing. When we went to Beijing our bathroom was entirely glass only that glass was frosted but still transparent. I have a friend who went to mainland China and her pictures showed that her hotel bathroom had a glass window to it from the sleeping area. I am not sure what that is about. Since it is still cold and wet out we were not real motivated to leave the hotel tonight. Peter had a big lunch so he wasn't hungry. I decided to eat a bit of the snacks we had brought
for our flights and while we are hiking just to hold me over until breakfast. Tonight we will just stay in, take some showers, get organized and maybe watch some tv before bed. Tomorrow will be our first real day in Hong Kong as tourist. The weather isn't supposed to be much better but we are making plans and hoping for the best.
