This morning I went outside to feed the fish in our pond and I was startled by a little mouse trying to get out. I don't know how long he had been in there but it was obvious that he was tired and couldn't get out. I have become accustomed to seeing rodents (usually dead though and left as a gift from a neighborhood cat) so after the initial shock I was okay.

I got a shovel and scooped him out and put him on the sidewalk in front of the house. He was just a little thing and too tired to move at all. I saw Brodie in the bushes across the street so I called to him thinking he would come take the mouse away.

No luck. Brodie came and sniffed at him and then proceeded to meow in hopes that I would give him some already processed food. Brodie just stared at me for a long time, as if to say "what else you got?"

After a little while the mouse started to take a couple steps and that got Brodie's attention but not enough to get him up and interested. Brodie just sat back and watched the mouse tip toe slowly.

Eventually Screech (he talks a lot) came around to the front of the house and I thought for sure that he would get the mouse. Nope, Screech smelled him a little and even licked him (you can see his tongue in the picture) but after that he too wanted processed food. Well a lot of good these cats are. I ended up taking the mouse across the street (it's all woods and no houses) and tossing him (with the shovel) into the brush. Then I went in and got some cat food for the lazy felines.
