China, Day one- Getting there

This morning Peter and I woke up at 3:15am and got dressed, packed a few snacks in our backpacks and then went in to each of the kids rooms to kiss them good bye and pray over them. My mom had stayed over last night so she was there with the children and will be taking care of them for the next two weeks. Our friend, Nancy, picked us up at home at 3:45 and we were off to the airport. There were no cars on the roads this early so the drive was quick and uneventful. Nancy dropped us at our gate and we started our very long journey. We have a total of three flights with two layovers, one in Dallas and one in Tokyo. We are flying American Airlines.
Peter took care of all the checking in because the airline wouldn't allow us to do it online or over the phone yesterday. Even though I had booked the flights 6 months ago and reserved our seats on each plane the airline took it upon themselves to pick new seats that weren't always together. When we got to the gate of the first flight we asked that we have two seats together which they were able to do and we boarded around 6:30. Our first flight would be our shortest and it took just over 3 hours before we arrived at Dallas Fort Worth Airport. We had a little difficulty finding somewhere to store our luggage since we didn't check anything and were one of the last to board since we had to wait until this morning to check in. Peter moved some bags around and squeezed our luggage in and just a few minutes later we were off. We were both extremely tired but it was impossible to get comfortable in the seats on that plane so we stayed awake and talked a bit and then I finished one of my books. We landed in Dallas about 30 minutes before our Tokyo flight was to board but thankfully our gate was right next to our last plane. I made a few texts and called my Mom and heard from my Dad. This next flight was going to be 13-14 hours long and neither
Peter nor I was really excited about it. When we boarded the plane we found storage easily and then took our seats. We had the two seats next to the window and then there was an aisle, a row of 5 seats in the center, another aisle and then another row of 2 seats. We were taking a 777 which was huge. The airline kept the seats I had reserved for us so we were able to use the power supply on our seats (there are only a few located throughout the whole plane). There were several inflight movies and television shows as well as music and games. Everyone had their own tv screen in the back of the seat in front of them so you didn't have watch one large screen several rows up.
They a small snack and lunch (which had sushi and chopsticks and I was very excited) while I watched a movie and then a television show and then tried to get comfy on Peter's lap and took a nap. We both slept for about an hour and half before we had to reposition and do something else. Since we were headed west we were chasing the sun so it was light the entire duration of our flight. At one point I looked out the window and I could see the Rocky Mountains which were really pretty still capped in white snow at the peaks. An hour or so later I checked and we were over Alaska and the earth was just covered with thousands of ice platforms.
It was really cool looking and I really enjoyed staring at the broken land all white with little slivers of water between them. Peter and I watched some Firefly episodes he had put on my iPad and then we both watched another movie and had a snack. Time went pretty slowly and soon there wasn't much to see outside the window. It was blindingly bright out there and once we left North America it was just water anyhow. We watched some more Firefly and then Peter laid on me and we took another nap, about another hour and a half. We passed the international date line so now it is tomorrow.
