Black Friday

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! We had a nice relaxing and quite holiday this year, it was great! I got the girls ready to go and cleaned Javan up and got him dressed and then we headed out to Grandma's house for turkey dinner. It was just our family with mom and Jim and then Brian made a brief appearance too. Peter's Dad came over for a little while but most of the time it was just us and Grandma. Dinner was great and nice and quiet and then Peter and I played a game of Carcassonne with Grandma. We headed back home to sleep nicely in our beds and then this morning decided to go out again. I had today off from work and really didn't want to spend it cooped inside all day while Peter worked on his stuff. I called up my mom and we decided to meet out at Oviedo Mall because we knew it wouldn't be busy there. We were right, there weren't many shoppers there at all and I wasn't really in the market to buy much since I had just about all my shopping already done. I did need to get some Christmas clothes for the kids to complete the outfits I already had going on. Anyhow, Abbi had spent the night at Grandma's so while we were waiting for them to arrive Bresa got to talk to Santa and Javan got to see him for the first time too. He was really interested in Santa Claus and looked at me and smiled a few times but I took too long to snap the picture so I just got a confused look. I had taken Abbi to the Sanford mall last week and Santa was there so she already got to tell him what she wanted. After lots of looking around and a couple purchases we headed home. Now it's time to sleep again.

Picnic in the Park

Since it was a nice day out I decided to take Brye and Abbi to the park while Javan took a nap so Peter could get some work done. We took our lunch with us and ate at the picnic table and then the girls played on the playground while I worked on some work for church. It was a nice day out and the girls had a lot of fun and I got to relax a little while Peter had some nice quiet time at home.

Turtle Sighting

A couple weeks ago we were driving home and saw a turtle in the neighbor's yard. When we got out and unloaded the car we decided to come back and see him but he was already gone. Today I was on the way out with the girls and there was the turtle again crossing the road. I stopped the car and had the girls get out to see him. He wasn't too afraid but we stayed back so we didn't scare him. When we were ready to go he still wasn't across the road so I picked him up and let the girls touch his shell to see how hard it was. I put him a good bit into the neighbor's yard so that he didn't try and come back across before we were past. The girls were really excited about the turtle and on the way home they both tried to find him out the windows.

Shoebox Time

As you may remember, every year around this time our church participates in the Samaritan Purse organization that delivers shoeboxes filled with gifts to children who have no Christmas. We had a good time picking out toys and school supplies for our boxes and cramming as much as possible into them. I gave each the girls a set amount of money and let them pick out what they would want to send away. When the boxes were filled and wrapped we took them to church and the girls carried them to the steps in the sanctuary when we were told to do so. Abbi had to carry Javan's box because hers was too heavy for her. Every year my heart breaks because I can't do more but I enjoy showing the girls how to care for others and give what little we can.

Fall Women's Retreat

It was finally time again for my church's Fall Women's Retreat. I had a great time last year and was really looking forward to going again. This time you could room up to 4 people so we got 7 people together and split it up. This year the retreat was at the beach and we stayed in the Hilton at Daytona. It was really nice and like last year, I had a great time. The speaker was very motivating and direct. She had some great analogies and visual examples for a lot of what she was talking about. This was great for me because I am definitely a visual learner. The retreat was only for one night which was too bad because I would be happy if it were all week long. We filled up Oscar of Friday and drove together, it was more fun that way. There were three sessions and a couple group discussions, quiet time, and then a few meals too. We all wrote on our evaluations of the retreat that it needed to be longer, we will see next year I guess.
