Happy New Years to everyone! I hope you get to enjoy a day off after some celebrating. I have the 1st off but I am going in for some overtime and to try and get things in order before my maternity leave. We are going over to a friends for the evening celebration so hopefully I won't be too tired in the morning.

Baby Update

Today we had a baby appointment and so far everything is going great! The baby could come any day now (literally) and we are finally getting things prepared for him/her. With all our family's and friends help we are pretty much prepared to greet this new little one. While I had some time off work for Christmas I got most of the nursery ready with new clean bed sheets and Peter raised the mattress in the crib. Peter also put together the bassinet for our room when the baby is still tiny and new. I am not sure how much longer we have but I have had a lot of contractions and the baby's head is down and ready. Our next appointment is Tuesday so we may find out more then.

Christmas Day

Somehow Santa came in the middle of the night and not one of us heard him and woke up. Peter got up first and let me sleep in until he brought be breakfast in bed. After eating I called in the girls and they told me that Santa had come and brought more presents. They said he ate all the cookies and drank the milk and the carrot was almost all gone. I had to get up to see this and was so amazed at the heaps of presents waiting to be unwrapped. The girls quickly cleaned their room and ate breakfast and then we sat around the tree and handed out presents. Bresa read off all the names and gave them to who they belonged to. Though, it looks like a lot there really weren't many toys this year. Mostly snack foods and practical stuff like shampoo, toothbrushes, and conditioner. Of course we can't go a year without receiving the girls favorite, Quilted Northern toilet paper (seriously they ask for it every year). Abbi did get a new Jelly Bean hat to replace the one I had bought for her in WI that she loved but lost it somewhere and was really sad about it. She also received a stuffed giraffe from Grandpa and Grandma Judy. Bresa's main gift was a pink violin from Mommy and Daddy. She has wanted to learn how to play for two years now and since she was still asking for one we decided it probably wasn't a phase. She will get lessons starting this coming year and we will soon listen to the sounds of a dying cat as she learns to play. We got a surprise phone call yesterday from our Pastor who said that some anonymous person had come to the church and left a bunch of presents for our family. Peter picked them up and brought them home and we opened them this morning. The girls each got a some really nice toys and Peter and I each got a few nice things as well, that was a really nice surprise because neither of us would have had anything to unwrap otherwise. It was obviously someone who knows us well and we have an inkling as to who it was but we won't call them out because they wanted to remain anonymous. After the presents were opened and put away we went to lunch with Peter's Dad and then came home for a nap. It was a nice and relaxing day and we all got lots of sleep but that didn't stop us from going to bed early.

Christmas Eve

I get paid for today and tomorrow and went into work this past Saturday so that I could have Friday off and paid as well. It was a nice change to be able to sleep in in the morning though I still managed to get up around 7:00. I went to work baking and cooking for our dinner over at my mom's house as the girls cleaned their room (slowly). I made pumpkin bread, brownies, cookies (for santa) and deviled eggs. While everything was baking I set to work cleaning the house top to bottom so that Santa would be sure to stop by tonight. Peter went and grabbed some lunch for us all and then the girls took a nap to minimize their crankiness for the late night we expected. When they woke up they got cleaned and dressed in their beautiful gowns and we set off for Grandma's house. We made a stop by our friend Chris and Miss Kim's so they could tell us how beautiful the girls. We got to Grandma's and after Brian came home and Janell and Wyatt showed up we had some yummy dinner and watched some wonderful Christmas Futurama episodes. It was dark now and the family was tired. I figured we would take the girls out to see some Christmas lights while the rest of the crew took a nap. We drove around and then went to the big Christmas house that we stop by every year and walked around it. I had sold the owners some Poinsettias earlier this year and he told me where to look for them in the display. We found them right where he said so that was pretty cool. We had to go back to my mom's house because I left my purse there and Abbi left her Snuggly Bear. We knocked on the door but no one answered so I told the girls to stay quiet because they were probably still sleeping. We went in and the girls noticed right away all the presents around the tree. Santa must have come while we were away!! The girls woke everyone up and then we spent the rest of the night opening presents before going home. They got some great princess stuff and Bresa got the Snow White gown that she really wanted. When we got home Santa hadn't arrived yet so we put out some cookies and milk and also a huge carrot for the reindeer in hopes that Santa would stop by later.

St. Nick's Night

St. Nick's night is suppose to be celebrated on the 6th of Dec. but somehow we miss it each year. It is a German holiday (celebrated elsewhere also) where children put their shoes out on the door step over night and St. Nick comes and leaves them a little present in their shoes. Usually an ornament or candy, something small. When we finally remembered to do so the girls put their shoes out and waited until morning to see if they had any treasures. Sure enough Santa had left each of them a beautiful gold ornament. A violin for Bresa and a butterfly for Abbi, Daddy and I each got some chocolate.

A soothing surprise

Today in the mail the baby got a present from our friends Leia and Alex. Leia couldn't make it to the shower but sent a wonderful surprise in her place. This bouncer was on my registry, we use to have one for the girls and they LOVED it but we let someone borrow it when we didn't need it any longer and I am not sure where it went. Oh well, I will keep better track of this one. It is so cute and it matches our pack'n play and carseat. Thank you so much Leia!!

Nonstop partying

Today started off rather nicely with a baby shower thrown by my Life Groups gals. We had a great time and I really enjoyed all the yummy food and being able to rest with my feet up for a few hours. Everyone was very generous and almost everyone bought off my Target registry which was such a blessing because those are the things I need most. The baby is getting more prepared for birth everyday and Peter and I trying to do the same outside the womb. There are still quite a few things that we need but we are getting closer to being ready every week. Unfortunately, I didn't take too many pictures because I was too busy chatting and making sure I tasted everything. Kelli took lots of pictures with her camera but I haven't gotten those photos from her yet. Brenda made the cake and it was absolutely gorgeous. It looked like a wedding cake with two tears and pillars decorated with baby ornaments and pearls! The bottom was chocolate and the top was white cake both with white icing. I will add a picture of it when I get one from Kelli.
Later we went to the church Worship Team party because Peter plays lead guitar in the band. We had a lot of fun there too and played the white elephant game where you steal and swap presents. This was the first year we actually ended up with something better than we brought. We were suppose to bring "regifted" gifts but we didn't have any so I went through the garage sale things to find unopened products that were never used. It was definitely a very fun day but also very tiring too.

Christmas Crafts

Another long week but there's always time for a little fun. After church we had our friends Brenda and Bill over for lunch and nice chat. After the dishes were done and the cake was gone our company left until tomorrow (they attend our life group). Peter and I played a game and then I got some paper and paints out for the girls to make some Christmas pictures. They both made a Christmas tree with their hand prints (they still need to decorate it), reindeers with their hand prints for antlers, and then snowmen made out of cotton balls. We used foam for the carrot noses and real twigs for the arms. We wanted to add some shiny snow but I didn't have a glue stick and I forgot to buy one at the store when we went before dinner tonight. Maybe tomorrow I will remember to grab one on the way home. I asked the girls who they wanted to give the pictures to but they couldn't decide just yet.
