Happy Halloween!!

I think I was more excited about Halloween this year than the kids were. I really liked their costumes and they were comfortable so there wouldn't be any complaining about itching or shoes that hurt (you know all that fun stuff). We were trying to figure out where we should go for Halloween since it was a Saturday and we had all day to celebrate. Janell talked about Animal Kingdom and Downtown Disney and my mom said something about the Disney Boardwalk Hotel. In the end though we decided to stay close to home. With Peter not feeling great and Abbi starting to complain a of feeling ill we thought it best not to go too far. My Sergeant told me about a church in Deltona that had a pumpkin patch and turns out they also had a little kid carnival thing in the morning. The girls got dressed up once again and even Daddy came along this time. The function was being held inside so we even put Javan's Lion costume on (thanks Heather!) and the girls played lots of games and had their face painted and we ate some lunch. The girls got some treats and made some crafts and then we headed home. I had to do the usual weekend stuff so Peter and Javan took a nap and I took the girls to the grocery store. They told me that later they were doing their own little trick or treating in each department and told us to return. We did our shopping and went home and unloaded and then got things together once again to venture out. We went back to Publix and got treats in each department and then we headed over to a park across from our neighborhood. A local church was putting on a Halloween fair and had lots of fun stuff to do. The girls played all the games and got treats and then we ate dinner. We watched a couple sac races and played a couple more games. There was one game where the girls had to take a bite of a donut that was dangling from a string (a new donut for each player) and it was hilarious how difficult it was. Every time I would think they could get it, the donut would slip away. They both had white powder all over their faces by the end of the game. We played the "Million Dollar Question" which was, "how do you become saved?" While you stood in line someone would come up to you and ask a bunch of questions and basically tell you that unless you were saved you were going to hell. Well, they got to us and started asking questions to Peter and he answered them all correctly and without pride. I guess that surprised them but then he pointed to Bresa and said, "what is John 3:16?" She spouted it off flawlessly and the lady asking questions just about had a heart attack. She went and gathered her coworkers and had Bresa do it again and then she took her away to another booth and showed her off. It was pretty cute but we expected no less really. After all the games the girls jumped in the bounce house while Daddy pushed Javan on the swing. We were waiting for our friends Bill and Lisa and decided to meet them over by the fire department where they had more games and such put on by the city. We did some more trick or treating at little booths and got cotton candy and snow cones and then the girls did another bounce house. It was about 7:00 and the girls were beat so decided to head home. Bill and Lisa came over and we played on the Wii a bit and hung out. Bresa said she didn't feel well and had a temperature of 101.4 so I gave her some Motrin and put her to bed. I was thankful that she got to enjoy the day without feeling sick but I do pray that she feels much better in the morning. Abbi, on the other hand, didn't complain of anything all day. I hope your Halloween was as fun and eventful as ours and I hope you have lots of candy to feast on the next couple of weeks!

Pre-Halloween Trick or Treating

At a nice new plaza in Orange City the businesses were doing trick or treating a night early. I got off of work and Peter was still not feeling well so I got the kids ready and we headed out to give Daddy some quiet time. It was pretty warm out so I didn't dress Javan up but the girls were in full costume. We went to each business in the little strip mall and then to all the stand alone shops around the lake. After we had hit all the stores we went to a little walk way so the girls could run around while I gave Javan his dinner. We had a good time and I am happy that the girls are going to get a lot of use out of their costumes this year.

SPD Awards Ceremony

Tonight was the Sanford Police Department Awards Ceremony. Every year they hold this ceremony and hand out awards to employees and volunteers that demonstrate hard work ethics and exceptional courage and conduct. Peter wasn't feeling well this year and I was going to go alone with the kids but he didn't want me to have to do that. He ended up coming with me and I was happy because I really didn't want to go alone. The ceremony didn't take very long which was nice because the girls were hungry and ready to get dinner served. You aren't told when you are invited if you are getting an award, they want everyone to come to support those who do get awards. I thought I was going to get an award but I thought it was going to be one of those "thanks for coming to work" awards that you get just so you feel like you got something. Anyhow the ceremony was winding down and I was trying to pay attention and make the kids mind when I heard my name. I got the "Administrative Excellence Award," for my organization and all the purging I have done in Evidence. I didn't realize it then but Peter pointed out that that was the highest award any civilian received tonight. I didn't think I would care about the award, but I did appreciate being recognized for working really hard. It's always nice when someone notices.

Costume Night

Tonight at church was the girls costume night. They got to dress up in their halloween costumes and go to their classes. I had fun getting the girls all ready for the night. I wanted them to look their best and I knew they would be so cute! No disappointment here. They were adorable! I got them all dressed up and then we went outside to take a couple shots. They showed me their ballerina moves and poses while I snapped away with the camera. They had a great time at church and we are all looking forward to showing them off again on Saturday.

Focus 09

Our church was putting on their annual youth retreat on a large piece of ranch property in DeLeon Springs. This year the kids were all camping with their tribe leaders on Friday night. Everyone was to get there in the afternoon on Friday and have lunch and hang out. There were waterslides, a pool, football games, snowcones, and just about anything else you could think of to keep the kids busy. Later in the evening there were some church services and prayer times and tribe times that surrounded dinner. The services included the youth band, which is where we came in. They needed an extra guitar player so they asked Peter if he would mind participating for the weekend. We got to go out and enjoy all the fun without any of the responsibilities. It was great. My mom took our kids and we got to sleep in the house on the property (it was gorgeous and huge) with our own room. We shared a bathroom with our worship pastor and his wife which was much nicer than the port-a-potties they had outside. Also we got to hang out in the AC while all the kids weren't aloud in the house at all. There was a catered BBQ dinner and then a huge bonfire lit. Friday night after the service all the adults who weren't tribe leaders had adult time where we just talked and had dessert and coffee, it was so nice! This morning we got up and had a great big breakfast cooked by the hosting family followed by a morning service. It was a really neat experience to be there with all the kids (7th-12th grades only) and to see how they reacted to the teaching and stories. I wandered away towards the end to get Peter some ice water but I was really moved to see all the kids finding a different location and praying on their knees or sharing prayer requests for themselves and others. I had a great time and was sad to leave but we had to get the kids to relieve my mom. I don't know if they will need Peter again next year but if it's going to be like this year was than I would love to come back. In the pictures you can see the property with some of the tents and the big water slide by the house. The big fire we had last night, you can see what looks like a log but it is actually a pretty descent sized tree. The services were held in a white tent down towards the bottom of the property. There were fans and lights and despite the heat it was pretty comfortable there. The hosting family did a great job and were extremely generous with their land, facilities, time, and money.

Farewell Dinner

Tonight we went to dinner with my Dad and Judy. They wanted to get together because they will be moving to Texas on Thursday. We wanted a place that was kid friendly so that they could be entertained while we talked over dinner. We ended up going to Mickey Finn's which has a clown on Tuesday nights that paints faces and makes balloon animals. The girls had a good time and Peter and I got to talk to Dad and Judy. I meant to take a photo of all us but somehow that was forgotten in the loading of the car and saying good bye. We will miss you Dad and Judy and hope to be able to see you again soon!! Drive safe and don't forget to call!

In the Park

The weather has changed for the better finally so we just had to take advantage of it. I was trying to decide where to take the girls to get them outside for a while today when Peter said he had to go to town to buy something for work. We decided to pack up the kids and meet Mike for lunch on Park Ave. When we first got there we walked around the Farmers Market for a bit and then headed over to Panera to grab some lunch to go. We took it to Central Park and ate in the sun. When we finished eating Peter left me with the kids to go run his errands and I watched the girls run around in the park while Javan and I fed the squirrels. A little later my mom came and joined me and we worked on our Crown homework in the wonderful weather. I took a bunch of pictures before Peter came back to take us home. Later tonight we have a party to go to and then my mom is going to watch the kids so that Peter and I can go out alone together, how nice!!

Day at Disney

I spoke with both of the girl's teachers and told them they would be out of school today and then I packed everything up and we headed to Disney. I had to make sure the girls were cute and in princess wear. They wanted to wear their dress up clothes but I knew it would be too hot. I put their hear up with Disney bands and added sparkles and stickers to their faces. Peter stayed home to get some work done but mom and I had a blast at the park with all the kids. This was Javan's first trip to Disney world and I am sure he will remember every second (right), and girls are always happy to return. We packed a lunch so we didn't have to spend $35 on food and we stopped every cast member we saw to trade pins on our lanyards. I was trying to collect some good boy pins for when Javan gets a bit older and can enjoy them himself. The girls are always busy looking for the latest princess pins and trying to add their latest favorite character to their collection. We went on plenty of rides and looked in just about all the shops. The sun was really hot but there was a wonderful breeze that stayed all day and helped cool us down. We took turns picking which rides to go on, this way we could get in Pirates and Haunted Mansion. The girls like the Fantasy Land rides like Small World, Cinderella's Carousel, and Dumbo. We walked over to Minnie and Mickey's houses and explored their homes and both of the girls went on The Barn Stormer for the first time. For those who don't know it is a child friendly rollercoaster and this visit was the first one where the girls were tall enough to ride it. They thought it was fun but scary and didn't want to go on it again until they had forgotten the fear about an hour later. We had a great day and the all the kids fell asleep in the car on the way home.

Sandwich anyone?

When I first started working at SPD I use to make the girls sandwiches ahead of time and freeze them so that Peter had one less thing to worry about. When I got pregnant and was working 65 hours a week and going to school I kind of stopped that due to lack of time. Since I was going to be home this week and had some time to be productive I decided to take advantage of it and make up some more sandwiches. As you can see there are several here and since Bresa buys her lunch everyday at school, these sandwiches should last a couple weeks for Abbi. It may not seem like sandwiches take a long time to make but when Peter is trying to work and feed Javan and put him down for a nap, every extra minute helps.

St. Augustine

My Sergeant does some Colonial reenactment shows and there was a bunch of fairs and such up in St. Augustine this weekend that he had told me about. Peter had to work so I thought it might be a fun day of something different for the kids. I asked my friend Lisa to bring her son along and we all drove up together. We had a good time just walking around and enjoying lunch. We walked through several stores and then over to the fort to show the kids. They wanted to go inside but it was time to head back. It was fun but it was also very hot out, maybe when the weather gets a bit nicer we can explore more.

Abbi's new room

It's finally finished and it took forever! It's my own fault for being such a perfectionist but I just can't let things go it they aren't just right. Every time I finished one part I would say that was it but then I would think it was missing something and have to do a little more. It was worth the work though because it is really cute and Abbi is very happy with it. I will have to remind her of this when she is about 16 and wants me to repaint it. There are lots of butterflies and lots of colors, perfect for a little girl!
