A night in

Due to heavy thunder storms and lasting rain we decided to cancel Life Group tonight so no one would have to load up the kids and drive in the weather. It was weird to have a Thursday night without anything going on. After dinner Abbi asked if I wanted to play Uno with her. After a couple hands Daddy joined us too (Bresa was taking her time eating). We played a few games and then Daddy helped Abbi read a whole book. She did a great job and will be reading chapter books in no time!

Visitors

Today Rayna came over with her son Chance. We haven't seen them in a long time so it was nice to catch up. Chance played well with Abbi and Javan (Bresa went to bed because she didn't feel well before they came over). It has been a long time since we saw either of them, I think the last time we saw Chance he was just a baby. I feel like I have seen him often though because I follow their blog (to the right) and am always informed. It was great to see you Rayna sorry your stay was so short. Maybe next time we can spend more time together.

Happy Birthday to Me!!

It is nice that my birthday happened to land on a Saturday this year so I didn't have to work. Peter made me chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast and served me in bed. He also brought me a dozen roses, a beautiful card, and an itunes gift card. Once we were all up and dressed we headed over to Waterford Lakes area and did a little shopping. We picked up a couple guitar shirts for the girls and one for Javan as well. Then we went to the Skechers outlet and got Javan a couple new pairs of sneakers. We walked over to the book store to see if they had a book I wanted called, Inconceivable. They did have it but it was twice the price of what I found it on Amazon for so Peter is just going to order it online for me. After getting a couple things at Target we met up with Christina and Noah at Chick-fil-a for lunch. Peter and I have given up eating out for 40 days and we are two weeks in. It has been really hard and there have been many temptations but we have both done really well. We decided to take today off since it was my birthday but we are going right back to it tomorrow. After lunch the boys took the kids to Tina and Noah's house and Tina and I met up with Angella for pedicures and manicures. Today I got a Hot Stone pedicure which was great and felt so good. Usually I get the basic pedicure which feels good but this was a nice change. After our toes and fingernails were all prettied up we met the guys back at the house. Christina and Noah were throwing me a birthday party and they were making all sorts of wonderful food. Pulled pork, BBQ chicken, pearly pasta salad, baked beans, layered potato salad, grilled green beans, and corn succotash. Everything was delicious as usual. Tina had invited a bunch of my friends and even though she lives a bit of a distance from our house several people came from our end of town. Rena and Reba both were able to make it from Gainesville and Tampa and then there were some friends who were more local to Orlando that came. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate my day with me. I had a wonderful time and I appreciate everyone who shared it with me! I was hoping Peter would take more pictures but he isn't really the picture taker of the family.

Mathathon Complete

Today Bresa came home with a t-shirt, certificate, and a ticket to Six Flags for completing her Mathathon and earning more than $35 for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. She is very proud of her certificate and her shirt. She asked what Six Flags was and when I told her about it she asked if we could go. I told her there were none in Florida so she asked if we could go to Georgia some day. LOL I am so proud of Bresa for completing her workbook and earning money for a good cause and I am glad she has a great feeling of accomplishment from doing so.

Hay, Strawberries, Parks, and Picnics

The girls have been home all week for Spring Break and poor Peter has had to try and take care of all three kids all day and still try and get some work done. He did say that all the children were very well behaved all week and though he wasn't as productive as normally is he did quite a bit more done than he anticipated. I figured since I have Fridays off I would take them all away to give Daddy a nice quiet day at home. Back when I was about 13 my best friend, Christina, and I went to England together. We were there for a 2 or 3 weeks and did many things in that time but one thing that really sticks out in my mind is picking fresh strawberries, cherries and raspberries. I just remember thinking it was so cool and I had never done anything like it. I have wanted to find a nice field near by that had Pick your own berries so I did a little research and found one in De Leon Springs about 30 minutes away. My friend Becky was excited to come along with her three little ones and try this new experience too. We drove to the farm at about 9:15 but they had just sprayed the strawberries and we couldn't pick them until the were dry. One of the guys there asked if we wanted to take a hay ride and see some animals, of course we said yes to this. While we waited for him to get the tracker with the hay trailer we walked through the little store and into a room they use to wash the oranges they pick from the trees. They had this really cool device that soaks the oranges, kind of tumbles them, sprays them, and and then shines them on a conveyer belt. It was really clever and something I never even thought about. They were working on a bunch of oranges just as we walked in so the kids got watch the whole process. When it was time for the hay ride, Javan was hesitant but I picked him up and sat him in the middle of the hay and once the ride started he was happy. We rode by a big lake and saw the pretty water and trees, then to the billy goats who came to the fence to see us when the farmer called them. He told us all about them and then we headed to the bald eagle nest. The eagles had just had two babies who were perched on a branch next to the nest, the farmer said they hadn't flown yet but probably could if they tried. He told us about how they don't get their white heads and tails until they are about 2 years old. We then went through the Orange Blossom groves and it smelled SOOOO good. As we were coming back around we saw a wild turkey take off through the groves. He was really cool and fun to watch. We circled back around to the store area and then unloaded the trailer of all the children. The strawberries still weren't dry so we drove down the road a little bit to a park so the kids could play and babies could eat and get diaper changes. We got back to the strawberries in time to pick them and each of the kids grabbed a container to fill up. Now, in England the fields were just that, a field of rows of strawberry bushes growing from the ground, here they utilized their space a bit better and used hanging planters that spun and stacked plants on top of each other. The girls had no problem picking the berries and filling their bins and Javan followed me to fill up ours. At first every time I would pick on and put it in the container he would take it out and eat it. This happened a couple times before I caught on (I was busy looking for the ripest berries to pick) and then I showed him how to pick and put them in the bin. He did a good job of that and helped a bit and then decided to go back to eating them or just de-stemming them all by pulling off all the leaves. The girls ended up filling two containers each and I had the one that Javan helped with. They were $3 each which isn't a good price but the experience and fun we had was more than worth it so I didn't mind paying for it. I also bought a jar of their Orange Blossom Honey and am excited about trying it. After we were all strawberried up we loaded the cars again and headed to Freedom Playground in Deland, that is this huge maze of wooden structures with all different activities. We ate our picnic lunch first and then the kids played for a long time. Javan ran around the boards and then ended on the swings which he thoroughly enjoy and then after all the fun we decided to head home. We made one last stop to a nearby Sensory Garden where I had gone once before the but girls weren't with me. They grow plants that are for your smell, feel, and seeing senses and tell you what to do at different signs. I knew the girls would enjoy it so we stopped quickly and then headed home. After all the fun we all were in desperate need of showers and we are going over to Becky's tonight for dinner. So far the day has really been a great one and I enjoyed every bit of it. All the children were well behaved and I know they really had a great time. I love to be able to do stuff like this with them I just hope they remember it when they get older so they can share it with their babies too.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Last night I said something to the girls about making sure they wore green today. Bresa looked at me and got all excited because she knew was St. Patrick's Day. She immediately started coming up with ideas for a trap so that she could catch that leprechaun that comes to our house each year. I told her it wasn't a good idea because I really didn't want that leprechaun to come back again. He always leaves a mess and I have to clean it all up. Abbi said they would clean any mess they made and then they set to work trying to figure out the trap. It was already late at this point so they didn't have too much time to work on it and when it got to be 9:00 I told the girls it was time for bed. They were disappointed that they didn't get to finish their trap but they left the gold pebble out to try and lure the leprechaun in anyhow. In the morning I got up at my usual 5 am and got ready in my room, nothing seemed amiss and didn't really think much of the morning. I went to the kitchen and turned on the light to gather my breakfast and lunch so I could head out the door when I saw the milk in the fridge was a weird green color. Flashbacks of the previous St. Patty's Days came flooding back and I ran to the living room to find a HUGE mess all around. The cushions were thrown from the couch and chairs, things were knocked over and even stuff that was in boxes was removed and strewn about. On top of that there was green glitter of probably every single thing the leprechaun had touched! I was not in the best of moods when I saw this big mess but I remembered Abbi's promise to clean it up so I left it as it was and headed to work. When I got home that afternoon the house was pretty much put back together, everything was off the floors and things seemed to be put away. There was glitter still about but I had to vacuum for Life Group tonight anyhow so that didn't bother me much. One thing the girls told me that I hadn't noticed in the morning was that the leprechaun had left green all over all the windows in the kitchen and living room. I suppose I hadn't noticed since it is still dark out when I leave the house but when I came home I could clearly see the evidence the little leprechaun had left. Our friends always tell us stories about cool things the leprechauns leave them and fun things they do but we have never had such luck. I told the girls that maybe the leprechaun gets so naughty at our house because the girls try and trap him all the time. Maybe next year we will be nicer and not set a trap and the leprechaun will come by and leave treats for the girls instead of tricks.

Abbi lost a Tooth!

About a week or two ago Abbi discovered she had a loose tooth. She was very excited and showed it off to everyone. As the days went on the tooth became more and more loose and she wiggled it with her tongue often. Yesterday when we picked her up from Christina and Noah's house I made sure it was still there and gave it a little wiggle. Abbi told me to pull it out but I wasn't sure if she was serious or not. Tonight after dinner and the girls were all ready for bed with teeth brushed I asked to see Abbi's tooth again. It was very wiggly and I told her it was going to come out any day. She again told me to pull it so I figured I would see if I could make it come a bit more loose. It didn't take much and then the tooth was just hanging there by a tiny root, completely sideways. Abbi was getting very excited and could barely hold still when I tried to get the final pull on in. Bresa was jumping around in excitement too so I had her grab me a few tissues. In just a second Abbi's tooth slipped right out but she was still moving too much so the tooth dropped to the floor. Abbi quickly found it and picked it up. She was so excited she was almost crying. She went to rinse her mouth out and I cleaned up her tooth for the Tooth Fairy to come pick up. What a brave girl Abbi is, I always offered to pull Bresa's teeth but she never wanted me to, so I was surprised when Abbi wanted me to pull hers. Congratulations Abigails, your very first missing tooth!!

Abbi's Weekend

When Peter and I went off to Tampa this weekend we dropped Javan and Bresa off at my mom's and Abbi got to go to Aunt Tina and Uncle Noah's house. Abbi was extremly excited about this. Bresa had stayed over before when Christina and Noah took her to see a Christmas play and Bresan and Abbi had both stayed over once when Peter and I were with them but this was Abbi's first time staying all alone. I was worried she would be scared or hesitant as she has never stayed anywhere alone other than Grandma's house before, but now I think she was too excited to even consider being nervous. One thing that Abbi is great at is eating a lot and I think the best place to do that is at Christina and Noah's house. They are always making wonderful meals and desserts from scratch and trying new things. I don't know what they had all weekend but I know that Abbi was very happy with it all. Aunt Tina and Uncle Noah took Abbi to Target to see if they could find a Wii game that she could play but in the end Abbi wanted a large cardboard playhouse that she could color more. When they got home they all set to work coloring the house up real pretty. Abbi told me all about it when we picked her up and Tina said Abbi enjoyed coloring it more than she enjoyed playing in it. Thanks for taking such great care of my Applegails Christina and Noah, she had a great time and wants to know when she can come back.

Saying Goodbye

Our friends, Vandita and Anupam, are moving to Hong Kong in a couple weeks for work reasons. Thankfully, this weekend Peter and I were able to go see them one last time. We dropped the kids off at my mom's and Christina and Noah's houses and then the two of us headed over to Tampa Friday afternoon. When we got there we all went out for a nice dinner and then went back to their house. Saturday was a very lazy day and it was wonderful. I took a nice long nap and Vandita and I watched a couple movies while the boys went flying. Peter had a great time in the airplane again. Him and Anupam flew to Lakeland before returning and coming home. He took these photos, the land view is of a fire they saw from the air. We stayed over Saturday night as well and then we headed back home this morning. The drive back seemed really short and we were at Christina and Noah's before we knew it.

Mmmm, Cheesy-Cake

For Christmas, Christina and Noah got a couple certificates for free slices of cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory. They hadn't had a chance to use them yet and the certificates were getting ready to expire so they offered them to Peter and I. Of course we gratefully accepted and today on our way into Winter Park we stopped by The Factory for a little afternoon treat. The girls were very excited about cheesecake and quite frankly so was I. We don't often get to enjoy such things so this was a wonderful treat for us all. The weather was beautiful so we got a table outside and looked over the menu options. Peter and Abbi eventually decided on Raspberry Banana Cream Cheesecake and Bresa and I decided to order the Chocolate Mousse Cheesecake. When the slices came we all shared each others and Javan was very happy about his little tastes with yummy cream on them. In the end all the children were a mess but our tummies were very satisfied. Thanks Tina and Noah for the delicious dessert!

Lucy's 11!

A couple weeks ago I noticed a scab on Goose's (Lucy's) neck. I decided I would take her collar off so that she heal up real nice. After a day or two she was all healed up but the collar that I had put on my night-stand was no where to be found. Goose must have hid it so we couldn't put it on her again. I looked all over but couldn't find it. After a week or so Abbi found the collar inside Goose's scratch pad. I put the collar back on Goose and she got mad and took off. The next morning Peter found the collar on the floor in the living room. I put it on her again but after a few minutes she had it off again. I tried this a couple more times but each time she took it off. Since Goose's birthday was coming up and she was going to get a new collar anyhow I decided to give in and let her have her week or so of nakedness that she usually only gets to enjoy on her birthday. After work today we all went to the Pet Store to get some presents for our much loved kitty. We got her new inserts for her scratch post, a feather chew mouse, new pooper scooper, and of course a new collar. I wanted to get Goose the collar with spikes on it or maybe the one with skulls but Peter had already specified that Goose needed a more girlie collar than her last. I disputed that the blue collar was covered in sparkles but I suppose this wasn't good enough. A pink collar was chosen for this year with little designs and of course the token "Goose Bell" so I know where she is when she tries to sneak up on me. When we came home to shower Goose with gifts she wasn't very thrilled. I put the collar on her first and she got mad and ran off for so long that we had to leave again to Life Group which was being held at our friend's house tonight. When we made it home again Goose still had her collar on and I called her to come up to the bed where her other gifts were. She didn't care about the scooper (Peter's excited though) nor did she play with the feather mouse but when I put the refill in her scratch post she went crazy before I even put any catnip on it. She got on that thing and went to town! She clawed it and bit it and then just laid on it for a while. She clawed upright and then turned around and clawed downhill. I am happy she got something she can enjoy and I think she looks very pretty in her new collar. Happy Birthday Goose, you're the best kitty we have!!

Mathathon

A few weeks ago Bresa brought home a pamphlet from school. She asked me if she could partake in the Mathathon that they were doing. I didn't know what this was so I checked it out on the website and found out that to be involved the student has to take pledges and once that is done they then have to complete a workbook of all math problems. If the student completes the entire math book they then collect the pledges and turn everything in. All the money raised goes to St. Jude's Research Hospital so it is for a very good cause. I signed the permission slip and then Bresa got to work making phone calls to start taking down pledges. She did a very good job and did all the calls herself (with a script I wrote out for her). She hasn't had too much practice on the phone, other than with Grandma, so this was a new experience for her. Eventually, the teacher sent home the workbook and Bresa worked very hard on it. She would do a few pages and then stop for a day or two and then work on it again. There was a lot of work to do in it and somethings she didn't understand but she just asked for help and never got discouraged or annoyed with it. Finally, she was all done with each and every answer and ready to collect her pledges. Bresa's goal was to earn $100 and in the end she came out with $140! Great job Bresa! I am so proud of you for working so hard and doing such a great job, all for a wonderful cause!!

(I am not sure what's with the pink wings and princess hat in the photo, apparently Princesses do math too)

Park Fun

After church and lunch today my mom came over to the house. We hung out a while and then we took the children to the park just down the road. A friend from church was bringing her grandchildren about Bresa's age and wanted them to meet. When we got there the girls went straight to the swings and Javan played on the jungle gym. He enjoyed the slide and of course playing with the wheel. Abbi did a great job swinging and Bresa eventually ran off with friends to explore the park. Soon she was playing Mother May I with the two girls she had met and Abbi was just relaxing a bit (and she found a dime which she was very excited about). They all played a long time but pretty soon it was time to get going. I had to take Grandma and the kids back home so I could get ready for my Crown class.

Click Clack Moo

This morning we got up and the kids and I made it out to the Farmer's market in Debary. I missed it last week so I was happy to be able to pick up some more fresh produce and we even ran into our friends, Kelli and Woody, there which was a nice surprise. We then went over to Publix for this week's groceries. We made it back to the house around 11 where we all ate lunch and then the girls played calmly for a little while. I wanted Javan to take a nap but I am pretty sure he just sang and talked the whole time he was in bed. It seemed like a long time since we went to the REP Theatre last but today it was finally time again. This time we had tickets to see the play Click, Clack, Moo which is about farm animals who don't feel they are being treated fairly. They find an old typewriter in the barn and use it to send Farmer Brown messages and requests. Before the show the children sat, colored and put together cow masks and then drew some photos of the inside of barns. The play was actually a "Moosical" so there was lots of singing and dancing too. We were going to leave Javan with my mom but he loves cows and music so we decided to take him with us because he would enjoy it. He did really well but did like to climb back and forth from Daddy to me until I brought out his cup and some grapes. The girls enjoyed the show and Bresa went to talk to all the characters afterwards while Abbi stayed with Daddy and I after only talking to the hen. The play was pretty cute and there were some pretty funny parts that only the adults understood (like referencing the book Animal Farm several times). After the play we stopped at Best Buy so Peter could pick up a new Bluetooth set and then we headed over to Tina and Noah's for dinner and a game of Settlers of Catan. Dinner was excellent (as always) and the kids enjoyed watching a movie and playing Animal Crossing while us adults played our game and talked. All in all a wonderful day!
