On the Road Again... Again (by Peter)

Well, today was the beginning of the dance photography season for me. I drove with Scott to Nashville on our way to Chicago.
It was a long day made longer thanks to Atlanta traffic and the detour around it that (like most short-cuts) may in fact have taken longer than the traffic would have. Oh well.

It is supposed to snow here a bit in the night and continue most of the morning so hopefully we will be able to get out of town without much delay. Tommorow should be the shorter leg of the trip. I'm already a bit exausted and the weekend hasn't begun. Perhaps next time I should get more than 5 hours of sleep before a trip.

Okay, thats cute!

I don't care who you are, there's no denying it, this girl is cute.

Can you see Lucy?

Today was another busy day. This morning we got up and dressed and then went to meet Peter's Dad for lunch at Panera. It was good to see Mike again, it had been a while since we saw him last. After we left lunch we went to my Dr's appointment in Orlando. It was a new dr once again but hopefully this will be the last new dr I have to see. Everything was fine with the babies, they sure like to jump around. We didn't leave the Dr's until almost 4 and we had to hurry home so I could get dinner started. We were having company once again, this time it was Tom, our friend who we haven't seen in a long long time. We had a great time talking over dinner and desert and then we played some cards. Peter leaves tomorrow morning for Chicago, I will miss him so much. He gets back Saturday (his birthday) but it will be really late. At least we will have Sunday and the whole following week to celebrate his special day.

A walk in the park

This morning it sure was chilly outside but it was also a beautiful day. We bundle the girls up tight and went to pick up some fried chicken so we could have a picnic in the park. Since the weather had dropped so much we decided to go to Blue Springs State Park because all the manatees always come in masses when the water in the river gets cold. The springs at the park stay at about 72 degress year round so the manatees know where they can come to keep warm in the winter. We got into the park and set up our picnic blanket and sat down to a nice relaxing lunch. Once we had eaten all our yummy lunch we put the girls in the strollers and walked the boardwalk (thanks Dad for filling the tires!). As soon as we got on the boardwalk we saw a bunch of manatees. We had fun telling Brye and Abbi all about them, Abbi called them fishies and Brye kept asking why the catfish were on them. We walked down to the springs and stopped many times along the way to see more manatees. During the summer you can swim in the springs in designated areas but in the winter it is closed for the manatees. We took the girls down to the swimming entry point and got to see some manatees real close up. They are so sweet and gentle I could just watch them all day. Brye liked it when they splashed with their tails or fins, she said it was like when her and Abbi splash in the tub. When we were through with the manatees we walked down to the playground and let the girls run around for a while. We all had a great day but we had to get back to the house because Dave was meeting us there to hang out. We love Blue Springs it is less than a mile from our house so we have been there many times, we always make it a point to come in the winter to see the manatees, sometimes we get to see gators too but not today.

Hero Cards

I read an article on the NGJ site (linked on the right) about sibling rivalry and how to overcome it. Brye and Abbi usually play great together but lately Brye has been a bit controlling and bossy. This always ends badly as Abbi is deprived of the toy she had simply because Brye wants her to play with something else. So in search of someway to help the situation I found an article that had a very creative idea. It talked about how the older boy of about 3 was given Hero Cards each time he did something that was really nice for his younger sister, about 18 months. After receiving 5 cards the boy was aloud to take the family out to something fun, anything the boy would like. After reading this I decided to give it a try and made some nice Hero Cards of our own, putting big stickers on the front and then writing a message on the back and then we had them laminated. I explained to Brye how she could earn one and what happened when she collected five. I told her that when she had earned five we could do whatever she wanted, we could go to Chick-Fil-A and get fruit (one of her favorite things to do) or we could all go to the movies, whatever she wanted. So far she has been really excited about the Hero Cards and has earned three so far. She knows she only has two more but I don't think she has decided what she wants to do yet. In order for Brye to earn a card I am looking for something that is extraordinarily nice of her towards Abbi. I want to really see her heart and know that in that time of her good deed she is really only thinking about loving her sister and not of anything selfish. Hopefully these cards will help bring out the more caring and nuturing side of Brye.

Night Night, Sleep Tight

Before bed time we always go into Brye's room and listen to her pray before we kiss her good night and shut her door. Tonight Peter decided to also read her a bed time story. My mom had lent him a book called 5 Minute Bed Time Stories and he decided to try it out. I know Brye enjoyed it, she loves being read to and Peter said the stories were really good too.

Feed the ducks

This afternoon we went over to my Dad and Judy's house just to say hi. While we were chatting I saw some ducks under the boat house so I went and got some crackers and the girls and I tried to go feed them. Well I guess they weren't friendly ducks because they swam away even after we tried to throw some crumbs their way. After they were gone I told Brye about the lily pads and we watched some minnows nibble on some tiny cracker bits. It was such a nice day out it was a shame we had errands to run. Of course we didn't get to them until after a few games of pool out on the back porch. So relaxing!!

Girls Day Out

Ever since we went and painted ceramics last month my mom has been itching to go back so we made a date to go today. I went over to her house and then we went to lunch and after we picked out some wallpaper for some bathrooms that my mom is redoing we headed over to get All Fired Up. When we arrived there were no other customers but we stayed so late that we got to see a whole bunch of people come and go. My mom worked some more on the big haunted house that she started last time and I started a new piece since I had finished my pumpkins in the last sitting. Mom got a lot done on the house but it still isn't done, I worked on a smaller piece and finished it up so I left it to get fired. We had a great time but we sure were there a long time. We plan on going back next week but now we have to work around Peter's schedule because we just found out that he will be in Chicago from Wednesday through Saturday. I will sure miss him while he is gone. :( I was only gone for the day and I couldn't wait to get home and get a hug, I don't know what I will do for four days all alone!

McQueen!

Brye has an affinity for Pixar films. Each time a new one comes out she becomes enchanted all over again. Of course Cars is her latest fancy and it shows. The outfit, blanket, and the car she is holding are from our friend Kim and most of the diecast cars and the case came from Grandma. I wonder what will be next..?

The Blues

Well, I've been spending a good bit of my time over the past few weeks working on another seven string guitar. This one, like several others, has been in the shop for a while just waiting to be completed. I had some issues with the first neck, so I started a new one last month and I've just been truckin' ever since. It started as a project for a guy who backed out after I had started acquiring the parts. I think I have almost everything I need for it now though and at this rate it'll be done in no time. Today I started carving the neck and I stained the body. I thought the color would work well. What do you think? (-Peter)

Dig it up!

Chris came over this morning and helped Peter dig up the backyard. We are planning on putting a porch in and we are going to do as much work ourselves as we can. Well, okay, so I can't really do much work but I am very good at supervising. LOL Peter had started digging up the yard yesterday and got about a 1/3 done and today with Chris' help they finished the job. It doesn't look like much now but I am really excited about it. My Dad and Judy have a panel porch that they don't need so we are using that with the screening and all to put up behind our house. The only thing we have to pay for is the concrete for the slab. Once Peter gets the ground level and sloped right and then staked off we will get the proper measurements so that I can call around and get some quotes. If it isn't too much more than we will pay someone to come pour it for us but if the difference is a lot we will do the work ourselves with my Dad's concrete mixer. Next week we have to go take down the porch from my Dad's house, they are having their roof extended to put in a screened in pool so they would just throw all the materials away otherwise. Thanks so much for all your help Chris! There is no way we could have finished today without you!!

Meet new Friends

Peter was doing some work in the backyard so I decided to escape with the girls and go over to my Dad's house. Judy's daughter-in-law is in town with her son William who is a year between the girls in age. They all had a great time playing together. First we hung out at Dad and Judy's and had some lunch and then we headed over to a nearby park where the kids had fun swinging and running around. By the end of it I know that I was sure tired but some how the girls still had lots of energy. After we left the park I went to Home Depot with my Dad and Judy to look at some things that we have planned for our house. It's great to have people who know everything about home repairs so nearby!

On another note, today is the last day of our first trimester. Tomorrow I will officially be 3 months along. Peter and I are very excited about this small milestone. I am sure the IPs are as well. I know that in singleton pregnancies the risk of having a miscarriage after the third month drops to somewhere around 15%, I don't see it being much different for triplets. To celebrate, Peter and I took the girls to dinner and Peter bought me a small ice cream cake (my absolute favorite!). Only 6 months to go, though I probably won't be able to hold out that long, we will see.

Let's go to the Zoo!

Today was a gorgeous day so we decided to take advantage of it and go to the Central Florida Zoo. Last year for the girls birthday's our friend Kim got the girls a year pass to the zoo. Not only is it good at our zoo but it is good for a bunch of zoos all over the US. We were going to go to a zoo up in DC but since everyone was sick and it was so cold out we decided to head home instead. We couldn't have picked a better day than today to go to the zoo, the weather was beautiful and there weren't many people around. Another thing Kim did for the girls was get them a plank on the zoo's boardwalk that had their names on it. We had fun finding it and explaining to the girls what it was. Brye and Abbi both had a great time seeing all the animals and learning all their names. I think Abbi's favorite part was feeding the animals in the petting zoo. She did great at first but then got a little scared but after she watched Brye do it a couple times she toughened up and tried again. It was a lot of fun watching them. Both of the girls were so good all day long. We will definitely be returning soon. The Brevard County Zoo is suppose to be really nice too and our passes are good there also. I think next month before I am committed to bed-rest my mom and I will take the girls to the Brevard Zoo while Peter has to be working out of state. Thanks Kim, what a great gift, we had so much fun!!

She's happy we're home

Since we got back from MD Lucy has followed me all around the house. My uncle took care of her while we were gone and made sure she had enough food and water and that her box was clean but she just hid out the whole time. When we came home she just talked and talked and couldn't get enough love from us. Lucy has been a real good kitty since we have been back, I think she may be afraid that we will leave again.

MMmmmm Chocolate...

Before my appointment yesterday I had lunch with my friend Greig. He just got back from visiting his brother (whose wife just had twins) in England. While he was there he asked if there was anything that I wanted for him to get for me, of course I said chocolate (what else is there?). I was super delighted to see that he did in fact bring me chocolate home and though I didn't specify it was exactly the kind I was thinking when I told him. When Tina and I went to England years ago we had a ton of fun trying all the different types of chocolate there. The Mars Factory is in England and though you can buy most of the same stuff in the states are some things you can't find here. The chocolate was a little melty so I had to hurry home to put it in my fridge. Thanks so much Greig, the package says enough to share but I don't know about that! It was so so sweet (literally) of you to think of me!!

Ultrasound

I had my second ultrasound today and my first appointment with my new High Risk OB. He was really great and I am happy that we will be working with him. He has the most experience in my area of delivering multiples. He said that he has delivered over 400 sets of triplets successfully so that makes me happy. At the ultrasound we (Peter and I) got to see all three little dumplings doing great. They were so much bigger than last time, just four weeks ago. They had lots of energy and we had a great time watching them do little jumps and such. I was so happy to see that they are all doing great and there are no problems so far. My Dr actually told me that I need to eat lots of fatty foods like, Cream cheese, Butter, and Ice Cream. He said because I am so small and because I can't eat much because the babies don't let me get much food in there before I am full I need to eat lots of fatty things. He said he would be the only Dr to ever tell me that. It was so funny, he is really cool. Unfortunately he said that at 20 weeks I will be on complete bedrest, I am so not looking forward to that. Especially since my birthday is the following week. Oh well I know that I have lots of friends who will come and visit me when I am not aloud to do anything else and they will keep me company. Here in the picture you can see all three little babies. The one on the left is the non identical and then the two on the right are the twins. The one on the bottom has his back to us so you can't really see his arms and legs but you can clearly tell there is a third baby there. I can't express how happy I am that they are all doing well, I actually cried a little after the tech made sure they all were healthy, I was so happy. My doctor said that with today's advancements and technology the success rate of keeping all three healthy is pretty good. That was a relief because I had no idea what to expect.

Our Rock Stars

Last night Brian came over and later we were joined by Chris. Brian brougt his Guitar Hero game with him and the boys jammed on that for a while. Brye and Abbi really like the guitar controllers and Brye liked to try and play the game too. I guess it was nice for the girls to finally have a guitar their size instead of trying to wrap themselves around one of Peter's normal size ones.

Back to Normal

Today was our first full day back. Peter had a couple errands to run so I stayed home with the girls and they got nice naps like I am sure they haven't had in a while. I bet they are happy to be back in their own beds, I know I was. I did some quick email catch up and worked on a couple things I had in the "In Basket" and then I just relaxed and enjoyed being home. When Peter got back we went to Target to look at a couple things before meeting our friends, Michael, Angela, and Randy for dinner nearby. Tomorrow is Randy's birthday so it was nice to see him to celebrate a little bit. I of course didn't have my camera on me so I didn't get a picture. I don't know why but Brye was really tired and she fell asleep shortly after we put her in her carseat, we talked outside the van for a while so it is probably better that she wasn't bored. So good to be back to normal and hanging with our friends around town again. Tomorrow night we expect to hang out with Chris and hopefully Reba if she doesn't have to work too much.

We Got our Baby Back!

After one final day of driving we finally made it home to house. Lucy (our cat) was SO happy to see us. She told us all about what she did and just talked and talked and never let me out of her sight. After we were home for about 30 minutes my mom came with Abbi. She heard me talking through the door and started calling "Mama Mama." I was so happy to see her, I missed her so so much. I unpacked everything we put it all away and then the girls went and played A LOT. It was very obvious from all the laughing and giggling that they really missed each other. Brye didn't even want to stop playing to go to the grocery store with Grandma to pick up some necessities we needed at the house. It just melted my heart the way they were so happy to see each other and how well they played together. I missed hearing them laugh so much in the other room. We had a great time in MD with Steve and Heather but it is good to be home!

On the Road Again

This morning after Peter packed up Oscar we left the Smith's and headed towards NC. Our friends, Robert and Jackie, live in North Carolina so we headed to their house to stay the night. We made it here in about 6 hours which wasn't too bad. The drive was nice and there weren't many cars out and we seemed to miss all the rush-hour times. Tomorrow we will head back home where we will get our little baby girl that we miss so so much. Abbi has had a great time staying with Grandma but I just miss her too much to wait another day.

While we were up in Lusby our friend, Pam, wrote to us and told us that she grew up in that small town. It is so strange that of all the tiny places that Steve bought a house our friend that we met in FL ended up being from there. I guess it is a small world. Pam, we only spent a week and a half there and I think we saw everything twice, I can't imagine what it must have been like growing up there 20 years ago. :) Glad we got to see your home town!

Washington D.C.

After yesterdays "resting day" we all felt much better today. We decided to make the trek to Washington D.C. today, well actually we drove to the Metro and then took that into the city. Brye really enjoyed riding the Metro, she called it the train. I told her that we had to go underground and she said that she would ride the train but didn't want to go underground. Well we got on and when it got dark I told her it was like a big tunnel and she was happy about that. She wanted to ride the Metro all day but we had things to see. Peter had been to D.C. a long time ago when he was little but this was my first time here. First we got some food so we had some energy to keep moving in the cold. We walked around a little bit and first saw the Washington Monument. We didn't go inside because there were only certian times you could visit and we were going to meet up with Steve later. After that we walked down to the WWII Memorial and looked around at all the plaques and engravings. The weather was so so so cold today so we tried to keep moving and sometimes between the buildings or near water it was a lot windier so we tried to stay out of the wind. The temperature was about 40 degrees but we were all bundled up so we weren't too cold. We started to walk down to the Lincoln Memorial but that is when Steve called so we headed back towards the Metro. On the way we Brye got to meet a patrol horse named Super Charger. She really liked her and the officer even let her pet her. I am pretty sure that was Brye's favorite part of the day. Then we met up with Steve at another station and he picked us up and took us to his office on base. He gave us the whole tour and showed us all the cool stuff that has been there forever. It was all really interesting but by the end we were all ready to go home for dinner. Inspite of the cold we still had a really great day.

Tuesday, January 9

In the Winter Spirit

We had a day of rest today. We've all been a bit worn out so we just lounged around for a while. Brye showed once again the wonder of the imagination as she presented to us her Santa outfit, complete with mis-matching socks and mittens (also socks).

Monday, January 8

Meeting up with Ali

Our friends Ali and Sean moved from FL to PA about a year and half ago. When they left they stopped by our house on their way and that was the last time we saw them. Brye and Gabe (their oldest) still write letters and mail things to each other and Ali and I still talk on the phone. After Peter and I got to Steve's house Ali called and found out that we were pretty close. We planned all week to meet up somewhere that wasn't too far for either of us to drive and today we made the short trip. It was so good to see her again! We met up and had lunch and the kids played and then I took her caching for a little bit. Ali had never been caching but she got excited about it when I told her after I started caching over a year ago. Now I am pretty sure she is addicted. Sorry Sean I guess now you will have to splurge on a GPS unit, oops. Unfortunately Sean had to work today so we didn't get the pleasure of seeing him but we did see Ali and their two kids and that was great. It was about 44 degrees out where we were and also very windy. We wanted a picture of all of us before we left but we were so freezing that we settled for one of just us while the kids were all warm in the car.

Today's Ventures

Yesterday Peter and Heather still weren't feeling too great so instead of going to D.C. we went to Ikea. Peter had never been there before but he didn't get to enjoy it too much because he felt really bad and had to keep finding places to sit and rest. I hadn't been to an Ikea since my Mom and I met up with Steve and Heather in Canada and we went to one in Toronto. That was about 3 years ago. Peter and I bought a couple shelves for Brye and Abbi's rooms so that it is easier for them to clean them up. Today we didn't have anything planned and after we went out and grabbed a new cache (we were first to find, which is a big deal in the caching world) we went back home and logged our find then we went to lunch at Panera. Before I was pregnant Panera was my favorite place to eat but since I got pregnant I haven't really wanted it much. Today however was pretty cold and Peter still wasn't feeling great so soup sounded really good. We all went for lunch and had soup in bread bowls and it hit the spot. Since we weren't too far from Point Lookout State Park we drove to the peak and took a short walk to get some civil war insight. The area was really interesting and we had fun seeing the cool buildings that were there. Now we are back home and getting ready for dinner, we may play a game of hearts before going to bed.

Saturday, January 6

A day at home

Yesterday was a rainy day. It rained most of the day, just drizzling but it never cleared up. Heather started to feel sick the day before and Peter started feeling it later yesterday. It was nice to just stay home and not run around. Brye got a nice warm bath to help her with the cough and sore throat and Peter did go out and get her some medicine. Her coughing really subsided and she got some good sleep last night. Today is suppose to be near record highs of 71 and it is suppose to be nice and sunny. We were planning on going to D.C. but if no one feels well we may have another resting day at home.

Thursday, January 4

Clavert Cliffs State Park

This morning after we were all up Heather showed us the way to a state park in the area. It was another beautiful day and the weather was a little warmer than yesterday. At the park there were some nice walking trails so we took them around the park and saw some nice scenery. After we walked the trails Brye played at the playground for a long time and her and Daddy chased each other around. Tyler had fun on the swings, I just sat back and rested as I watched them play. It was so nice out I really enjoyed just resting with the breeze going.

Wednesday, January 3

A Day Out

After we slept in a bit this morning and then got up and got dressed and all we headed out to explore. Steve had to work until later in the afternoon so Heather gave us the tour around their town. She took us down to Solomon's Island and we took a walk along the coast and then up through the little shops that lined the street. After our walk we went across the bridge (which I think is really scary) and had lunch at a place called Five Guys. They sold burgers and fries and it was really good. While we were on the other side of the Patuxent River we grabbed some caches, some of which Heather and Steve hadn't been able to find. When we headed back we grabbed some more and then headed home where Heather made dinner and we bathed the kids. The weather was so nice today, I thought it was suppose to rain but it was blue skies all day. It was a bit chilly when the wind blew but we had our jackets with us so we stayed warm.

We Made it!!

Last night we arrived in Maryland at my brothers house. We drove all day long and we were all very tired, Peter drove and followed Steve for the whole trip so I was able to get a couple naps in. We had a great trip though. There wasn't much traffic at all until after we stopped for lunch. Yesterday Brye had a sore throat and a cough, she wouldn't eat her soup we got for her for dinner and about an hour before we got to Steve's we had to pull over because she got sick. The poor girl. When we got to the house I gave her a nice warm bath and we threw all her clothes and carseat cover in the wash. Today she seems to be feeling much better but she still has her cough. She has been eating better though so that makes me happy. The weather here is very cold so we are staying inside. We went out to grab some food for the day and now we are just relaxing and hanging out. Pictures to come soon...
