Friends

Peter had to do a little work at the shop today and then he came home and mowed the lawn. After I ran some errands, Peter and I took a few things we didn't need over to his brother's house for his family to use. Once we left there we took the girls over to see Kent and Jake and their daughter Kendrah. We had a great time and the girls had a blast playing together. We hung out inside for a while but the weather was beautiful so we moved outside before it got dark and dinner was ready. Kent BBQ'd some hot dogs and hamburgers while the girls ran around the yard. We had dinner and watched a movie after we put the girls to sleep. We didn't get home until after midnight, of course the girls were asleep long before then. I am taking the girls to see Kendrah and Jake again on Tuesday for a play-date, so it won't be long until they can all play together again.

A fun day

Peter had to work today and I didn't have any plans so when I heard from a geocaching buddy that wanted to get together I jumped on the chance. We met at my house and then we took all the girls (my two and her one) to a park that is just a couple miles from my house. It may be close in distance but you have to drive all the way around and take a boat to the island. I had never been there before so I was excited to see what it was about. We parked and took the short boat trip and then the girls played on the playground. We grabbed a couple caches while in the area (of course) and then when the thunder started we headed out. The girls had a good time and Brye really liked the boat (Abbi was scared). Later Peter and I had dinner with Michaela and Angella, the girls were asleep in the car before we could leave the parking lot to come home.

Matching Tattoos

A long time ago Christina sent me some of those temporary tattoos. Well I just pulled them out today to show the girls. It was quite the event getting them on them and making them hold still and not touch. LOL Finally the tattoos were dry and the girls were so proud of their new artwork. :)Thanks Tina the girls really like them!

My New Cache Map

When I went to see my brother I added IL and WI to my map of states that I had cached in. This is my new map.

Normalcy

After getting home last night, everything returned to normal today. I got up and went to the PD and put in a few hours. I love working there so I don't mind getting up early to make it in. When I picked up the girls to take them home for lunch and naps, Peter said that Brye had something to show me. Apparently she had made something out of blocks while I was away so I had to see what it was. I couldn't believe that Brye had made what she showed me all by herself with no help from Daddy whatsoever. She is so smart, I can't get enough. I sure did miss her and her sister while I was away! You can see in the picture the truck and the best one-the fishy! She honestly had no help at all in making her fish, I almost didn't believe it but then I just remembered: she's Peter's daughter.

One final time

Sunday morning we picked Brian up again and headed up to Wisconsin. It was only ten miles north of where we were and I really wanted to get a cache in that state so I could add it to my map. Janell had found that the Jelly Belly Factory was just over the border and that they gave free tours. We told Brian he would love it and that all the sailors were going. He didn't believe us but he humored us anyhow and went along. When we got there we tried a bunch of samples. Some of the ones they had were really nasty flavors (dirt, earthworm, earwax, etc). I stayed away from most of those though I did try grass, soap, and bacon. Yes, they really did taste like their names. Brian tried every single gross flavor and said the worst tasting ones included vomit and rotten eggs (go figure). We took the tour around the plant but it was pretty lame. There were other Sailors there so now Brian can't deny that he went. We bought some gifts in the shop and then headed a little farther North to The Cheese Castle. It was a pretty shady place but we made it out alive. Jim bought some cheese and sausage (I wanted to get some from Peter but I knew it wouldn't keep that long in without refrigeration). They had really good odd brand rootbeers though so we helped ourselves to a couple of those and then grabbed a couple caches before we had to get Janell back to the hotel so she could make her flight. After lunch Brian said he wanted to go play video games at the arcade again so Mom took us to the mall and walked around while Brian and I shot at things and played some more air hockey. We had some good talks and I really enjoyed being able to spend some more time with him. He had to back on base at 6 that night so we had to cut our fun short. It was really hard saying good bye to him again. I really missed him while he was gone and now he has six more months of A-School before he gets a full leave. Hopefully he will be able to come home for Christmas in a couple months and perhaps I can go back up to visit him again. I cried when we had to let him go and return to our hotel. I am so proud of him and how far he has already made it. BT is so hard and I know I wouldn't last in there. I can't wait until I can see him again, hopefully soon he will be free to use the phone regularly and we can catch up some more.

I have a friend Sherry who moved to Chicago a little less than a year ago. We talked a lot after the babies were born and when I realized that I was coming up there we made plans to get together. I wasn't there for very long so I was happy that we did get to meet up and chat. Sunday night we met at a coffee shop and just talked until I had to get back. I was so happy to see her, it had been so long. Thanks Sherry for the drink and I will probably be taking you up on your offer to stay with you guys if I return to the area! It was so great seeing you!!

A Day Off

We went back to the base at 8AM to pick up Brian. He wanted to go to downtown Chicago so we drove down there for the day. One of the things that looked cool was the Sears Tower so we found that first but the wait was 45 minutes long. We decided to come back later and we took a boat over to The Navy Pier. We walked all up and down the pier but we didn't really do too much there. Everywhere we went people stopped Brian and asked him if he just graduated and thanked him for serving our country. It was great, I am really proud of him and he deserves all the positive attention he receives. After we got through with the pier we wandered back over to the Sears Tower but it was still a long wait. We grabbed some food nearby at an Italian restaurant and it was really good. Finally we went back to the Tower and although the wait was still the same we decided to go for it. Brian had to be back on base by 8PM and if he was late he wouldn't be able to come out on Sunday. We had to be sure to get him back in time. The Sears Tower really didn't seem that tall from the outside but as you can imagine the view up top was great. Also I got a virtual geocache to add to my numbers. :) We left Chicago and headed back to the base and grabbed some dinner on the way. We stopped by the base's Exchange to grab a few goodies before saying good night to Brian.

Navy Basic Training Graduation

We made it safely to IL and found our hotel and got a car. Friday morning we had to get up early to go to Brian's graduation from his basic training course. I was so excited to see him and finally after having our car searched and going through security we were finally seated in the balcony of the hall where the ceremony was to take place. The ceremony was a couple hours long and I was a little impatient for it to be over because I really wanted to see my brother. We were able to pick him out of the 961 other graduates and I took a few pictures for him to have. Finally the authorities told us to go get our Sailors and all the visitors made a mad dash towards the men in white. Brian was looking for us everywhere and didn't realize we were up top. We didn't want to get lost in the crowd below so we were trying to get his attention without going down stairs. Finally he saw me and his face just lit up! It was so great to see him. We met on the ground level and gave lots of hugs, I was so proud of him and all he accomplished! He looked great in his uniform and I was very proud to be his sister. There were a few kids who fainted during the ceremony because they locked their knees while standing at a attention. I was so afraid Brian would but he was great and didn't have any problems. After we finally got off base we got some food and wandered the nearby mall. We found an arcade and played some shooting games and air hockey. Later Brian wanted to make some phone calls so Janell and I went to find a cache (actually Janell is the one who found it) and then we all grabbed dinner and took Brian back to the base. The kid in the picture with Brian was his "rackmate."

Flying out

My little brother graduates from Basic Training at the Naval Base in Great Lakes, IL tomorrow. I am leaving today to be there for the ceremony. Peter and the girls are staying here while I am gone. I will be returning on Monday with lots of pictures and news for the blog that I will probably post on Tuesday. See you then!

Wednesday, September 19

I have to leave to go to IL for the weekend so Peter wanted us to spend some time together as a family. He went out and bought 'Flight of the Navigator' one of his all-time favorite movies growing up. He thought the girls would like it. So last night we all got in our bed and watched the movie together. Some parts scared Abbi but in the end they both really liked it. I hadn't seen that movie in years and there was a lot that I didn't remember, it really was a great movie.

1000 Finds!!!

Last night I figured out a really hard puzzle that a local cacher put out for me to grab as my 1000th find. I wasn't sure if I would have it solved before I went to IL for Brian's graduation but I finally got the last stage figured out last night. I had 992 finds so I still needed 7 more before I could grab the puzzle as my 1000th. Another local cacher called me and wanted a hint on the puzzle but I told her that I wasn't giving out any until I found it myself and that I couldn't go get it until I had 7 more. She suggested a late night rainy cache run. So last night we went and grabbed 7 more caches and this morning I went to make my 1000th. The cache had been published for 3 days at this point but because it was so hard, it had no finders. I wasn't sure if someone had found it but hadn't logged it so I wasn't counting on a FTF (first to find) though I thought that would be really cool for my 1000th milestone. After I got to the cache site I searched for about 20 minutes. Finally I came up with the find I was looking for and when I opened the cache log I saw that no one else had vandalized the log with their signature. I was happy to write the first log on the first page. I am very proud of my 1000 finds but I think I am more proud of being FTF on one of local puzzle genius' evil puzzle cache.

Hi Tina

My best friend, Christina, came to town just for the weekend. She popped in to see her mom for a couple days before returning to Ohio. I hadn't seen Tin in quite a while so I definitely wanted to take advantage of her time down here. Her mom just had a house built out in Windermere and it is absolutely gorgeous! By far the largest house I have ever seen. I drove out there with the girls today while Daddy took some time off and played at the shop. I was given the tour of the house and then we ate some lunch. It was great seeing you Tina and Raj, your house is beautiful!!

The Villages

Another caching event brought me out to The Villages where there was a meet and greet at a local restaurant. A local cacher picked me up at my house at 5:30 AM and we went to Sanford to meet up with 3 more cachers. We all rode together since it was a bit of ways and got there a little early. We had a great time meeting other cachers, some we knew some we didn't, at the event and having breakfast. The group that put on the Meet'n Greet also put out a bunch of new caches in the area for everyone to find. We loaded up the new coords and we were off. We spent the whole day driving around town and gathering up finds. At one point we had a caravan of four "geomobiles" following us, eventually it dwindled down to just us. Right now I am sitting at 992 finds. My 1000th find milestone is just around the corner. For my big find I want to do a really good memorable cache so I asked a local puzzle genius to make up a new one for me. He wasted no time and had a new (very difficult) puzzle put out. I am still racking my brains on how to solve it. I can't find more than 7 until I do so this one can my my 1000th.

Picnic

This afternoon I went to get the girls from Peter's shop. Right when I got there Peter's Dad pulled up. He came for to see Peter and have lunch with us. I made the pizza run to a little hole-in-the-wall shop down the road. Peter found this place a while ago and they have the best food so we go there often. After I came back I suggested we eat outside away from all the sawdust. This way the girls could get some fresh air and have room to run around. We sat in the shade and enjoyed our lunch. It was nice to be able to just sit and relax for a few minutes, seems like we are constantly busy with something these days. Thanks Grandpa for the yummy pizza!

Night Caching

I was on my home tonight when I realized that I had missed a call from a local cacher. I called her up and we decided to meet at a cache down the road to make a find. After we picked up the one we went on to another that her and her boyfriend had already found but that had since been claimed as missing the first two stages (it's a three part multi cache). We couldn't find the second stage though we all had flashlights so they showed me the way to the third stage. I was happy to grab this find as it was a cache that has been on my to do list for a long time. I don't usually cache at night but when the hides aren't too hard it can be really fun (don't worry, I never cache at night alone). Blurry picture due to lack of light and a shaky hand. It is of my signing the log for the cache before replacing.

Play the Day Away

This morning on my way to drop of Daddy and the girls, Brye saw a playground in a park that we pass by everyday. She asked if she could play there. I told her that if she was good for Daddy while I went to the PD than I would take her and Abbi to play. After I got off work I went to get the girls and Peter said that they were pretty good for him all day. It was later than I had expected it to be when I headed home so I had to get the girls some lunch and then it was nap time. I told Brye if she continued to behave we would go to the playground before we went to get Daddy at 6. After lunch and nap time the girls were still pretty good so I was true to my word and we headed over to get Daddy early so we could spend some time at the park. The girls had a great time playing and really wore themselves out. We were probably at the park for about 45 minutes and there was no one else around. Abbi liked the swing the most of all. Brye surprisedme by her bravery and went up to the highest twirly slide a dozen times. I think she must have seen kids at school who were trying trickier things because Brye would never attempt something like that before.

To grow babies

This morning I finally sent out the milk I had pumped, from when the triplets were born, to The Mother's Milk Bank in CO. I had a to send a lot and couldn't fit everything I wanted into the box. The MMB had sent me an insulated box a while ago with all the instructions on how to pack it and a prepaid shipping label to send it back. I had to go to the doctor and have some blood drawn for them to make sure I wasn't ill with anything that could be given to the babies who will receive my milk. The milk was overnighted via UPS and MMB should get it tomorrow. Once there they do the sterilizing and pasteurizing to make sure the milk is free from any bacteria or harmful substances. They then take the milk and distribute it to NICUs all over the country. The NICU's have to pay for the milk, I believe it was $3.50 an ounce. This helps take care of the cost of all the is incurred through preparation. Many of the employees at MMB are actually volunteers and the company is non-profit. When you donate they ask that you donate a minimum of 150 oz. I gave a lot more than that but not as much as some women. I talked to some that pumped their milk for 6-12 months to donate. I only pumped for a month. If I were to be a surrogate again I would also pump and donate my milk again. It is really a great cause.

Bye Steve!!

I got a phone call on Friday from my brother Steve. He said "I will be at the Winter Park train station at 10 AM tomorrow" I said "I'll be there!" Unfortunately Steve's train was 6 hours late on Saturday but I was still there to pick him up and take him to Mom's house. We hung out all night and then I came back today to see him again before he had to leave. Steve just finished a two week Basic Training in SC where they trained him for combat fighting. Tomorrow Steve leaves for Iraq. My mom and Peter and I took him to the train station today where we had to say our final good byes. Before he took off we walked down the rail a little bit and Steve put pennies on the tracks for the girls. He told them about how the train would come by and flatten them after he left. It was really sad to say Good Bye and we will pray everyday for his safe return. I thank you also for praying for him during this time. I will keep everyone updated as I learn anything new. The pics are of us at the station and then Steve putting the pennies down and the girls holding them after the train headed up North.

Bunnies

Last week Scoot and Diane gave up their two rabbits to my mom. They had had them for a long time and decided that they would be taken care of better at my mom's house. Yesterday I went over to see my mom and the girls and I went out to say hi to bunnies. They seem to be doing well and enjoying their new home. I took some video for Diane's girls so they could see how happy they are now. I don't know how to resize the videos so I am just putting up a picture.

What a mess!

Today after Brye was suppose to be taking a nap she informed me that she broke a ceramic pot in her room. I went in to pick up the pieces and vacuum before I would let her play again. While I was cleaning I found another room full of toys hiding under her bed! Holy cow, I thought she had lots of toys before! I pulled the toys out and kept pulling and pulling until I finally thought I had them all. I put them in a big pile in the center of her floor so she could put them where they really went. When I showed her the pile she said "this is going to take too long." Yeah, go figure. This picture is taken about 30 minutes into the clean up process, I am not sure how much she got done but I do know she was working on it.

So cute

I always make sure Brye looks cute for school. She gets to wear pretty dresses and I do her hair so it won't fall in her face all day. I know that at some point in the day she is just going to go play outside on the playground but I don't care if her clothes get dirty, at least she will look nice for a little while. She goes to Christian Center for Little Angels so I do what I can to try and make her look like one, acting like one is another story.

Finger Painting

Today, on my way home from volunt-
eering, I got a call from Rena who was in town and wanted to hang out. Perfect timing! She came over and we talked for a long time and then I got the girls up from their naps. Over the weekend I had talked to Brye about primary colors and how they make secondary colors when you mix them together. We went to our new Michael's and bought some paint accessories and the three primary colors. Today we decided to have some fun. Brye told me how to make all the colors and once we were all set up we each made a picture with our paints. The girls had fun but after they were done they wanted to "fix mine." They had an even better time turning my pretty tree and flowers into a big orange and red blob. LOL Once we were done painting we had a huge mess everywhere. Luckily the paints were washable and everything came clean pretty easily. The girls were really proud of themselves and the pictures they made and they couldn't wait to show Daddy their masterpieces. Thanks so much Rena for all your help this afternoon!
